magkaka-macbook na 'ko!

... dahil ninakaw ang laptop ko kagabi.

i woke up to our usual morning frenzy here at home, lahat naghahanda for work/school. i looked at my desk right beside the window and saw that my pinku is not there. huh. ok lang baka nilipat lang nina papa or jai somewhere. so i asked everyone. they didn't know where it was. when i saw the non-joking look on their faces i felt a pacquiao-punch to my gut.

oooooh no. oh no no no no no no no no!

a scumbag thief must've fished it out through the window.

it's all very slumdog millionaire-ish, it is written. papa kept on saying "jojie, nakatakda." i seldom worked on my laptop here at home because only the desktop had internet. i always packed it away right after. mudslide, my dog who has adhd, always guarded the door and windows outside. but laaaast night... i typed my summer narratives and sorted summer class pictures on my laptop. after using, i decided to let it cool on my desk first. and i brought mudslide inside and he slept soundly under the kawayan sofa that i slept on. (apparently, twas such a deep sleep that he forgot he was a dog and he's supposed to bark under dubious circumstances.)

and so, pinku was gone (oh and the ipod too. wah. jeb's ipod. sorry bebe. i was practicing my 3rd yr anniv chorva for you. magkatabi sila. anak ng kamoteee.), had the pacquiao-punch to the gut, and bawling soon followed. first thoughts?

1. ang THESIS ko. Lord. ANG THESIS KO!!!
2. pinag-ipunan ko 'yun on my first year of teaching. araaay. ang saket. ang saket saket.
3. my precious kiddie pics and vids are there. oh no. no more videos of gabby grinding and singing "shake your booty", nor of rafa dancing to "wheels on the bus", nor of aaron doing push-ups in the ponies classroom.
4... gossip girl today, so dito na lang ako sa desktop magd-download?
5. teacher, PACK AWAY. PACK the effin AWAY!!!

2 glasses of water and 1 super-pow-wow from mama ("anak, people die, things get lost. hope and faith remain.") later, the next wave of thoughts washes over me...

1. thank you sir tiongco for reiterating the back-up, back-up, back-up thesis rule. i have a twin THESIS folder here on the desktop. i've done minor revisions on the laptop that i haven't backed-up yet, but nothing major is lost. thank you Lord.
2. thank God for MULTIPLY! dami kong pics dun.
3. ano bang panaginip ko? ba't hindi ako nagising? si john lloyd ba?!
4. ... tama dito nga ako sa desktop magddownload ng gg, wala naman akong azureus sa laptop e.

5. (and then, as if the clouds opened and a choir of angels sang the hallelujah chorus overhead...) ... ibig sabihin ba nito pwede na 'ko magka-macbook?

but i'm feeling better now. i have to do barangay stuff, i have to retype my short narratives, but all-in-all, i've gone through worse.

goodbye my pinku. i'll miss you. thank you for surviving and understanding the techie-destroyer that is me. no reformats, no big cop-outs, just your dvd drive replacement last january. i'll miss our long walks in malls, pearl drive, and kalentong; thank you for being my workout. i'll miss your beep of death when you only have 10% power left. (you left your power cable btw, how will you survive after 45 minutes? nyahahaha got ya sucker! yan ang laptop na namamatay agad. beh.) i'll miss your tiny adorableness, your battered keyboard from all my rants, and your in-your-face-very-jojie-pinkness.

child wonder

said a singer/songwriter friend about turning 24: haaay. di na 'ko child wonder. kumbaga, DAPAT LANG na maganda yung mga sinusulat ko, 24 na 'ko e. (for the record, i am one of your biggest fans, dear. kiber kung di ka na wonder child, your talent is evolving magnificently. wonder woman ka na, tada!)

yep, the ninomuhlach-aizaseguerra-charicepempengco story. (oh yes, charice too, believe you me.) kid dazzles everyone with extraordinary talent, kid grows up and the cuteness diminishes, kid makes everyone wonder "whatever happened to all that potential?" whatever way he turns out to be. it's a combo case of premature peaks and over-inflated expectations, like a cute rom-com movie with a hohum ending waiting to happen.

oh well. the kid had his moment, the audience had their entertainment fix, and another child wonder takes the stage sooner or later.

i guess we can never have too many examples to remind us that time follows its own schedule. each day is for the taking and we need to pushpushPUSH, always upgrading ourselves beyond limitations and expectations.

F for EFfort

tonight i promise not to think. i will just type. i keep on saying i miss blogging. so i will just type. and hit publish. ready? here we go.

i had fun today. morning, i met with pao and marc to practice our songs for a party tomorrow pao booked us for Godknowswhy. we haven't seen each other for years and it was such a delight to sing with them again. we took jabs at each other about how we are all chunky now but whattheheck. maybe we were malnourished in college.

breakthrough: marc knows the names of guitar chords now. before he just had diagrams with numbers and lines that only he could understand. nonetheless, he and pao still play the guitar amaaaazingly. i on the other hand, can't recognize my voice anymore. i haven't really sung for so long already... except for my daily "hello how are you" for the kids in school. gad. i missed bashing myself and literally being a broken record. (operative word being BROKEN. haha.)

will sing cherish, the scientist, big girls don't cry, love story, shy that way, smash into you, and fallin' tomorrow. guuuuudlak with that.

then i met trix at shang for much needed SATA (sit and talk awhile bakit ba corny nga 'pag college e!) in the afternoon. got our coffees and cake then sat outside at shang's topmost floor's outdoor thingie. talked and talked and talked... windowshopped for shoes... then talked and talked and talked some more. i can't say how psyched i am that she'd be working in explo already. i'm giddy like a kid on Christmas morning.

at about 5pm, i checked my phone and saw that it was off. gr. it dies from time to time especially when someone calls. (wooow. phone 'yan ha. boo.) apparently mark called /texted to say that they (he+aiza, thrina, tracy) were in shang too. :) we met up and trixie got a taste of more explo madness. weee! mark decided to celebrate his bday early and we had dinner at cyma. woot! missed mocs though.

WRITING RULES

1. Verbs has to agree with their subjects.
2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.
3. And don't start a sentence with a conjunction.
4. It is wrong to ever split an infinitive.
5. Avoid clichés like the plague. (They're old hat.)
6. Also, always avoid annoying alliteration.
7. Be more or less specific.
8. Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are (usually) unnecessary.
9. Also too, never, ever use repetitive redundancies.
10. No sentence fragments.
11. Contractions aren't necessary and shouldn't be used.
12. Foreign words and phrases are not apropos.
13. Do not be redundant; do not use more words than necessary; it's highly superfluous.
14. One should NEVER generalize.
15. Comparisons are as bad as clichés.
16. Don't use no double negatives.
17. Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.
18. One-word sentences? Eliminate.
19. Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake.
20. The passive voice is to be ignored.
21. Eliminate commas, that are, not necessary. Parenthetical words however should be enclosed in commas.
22. Never use a big word when a diminutive one would suffice.
23. DO NOT use exclamation points and all caps to emphasize!!!
24. Use words correctly, irregardless of how others use them.
25. Understatement is always the absolute best way to put forth earth shaking ideas.
26. Use the apostrophe in it's proper place and omit it when its not needed.
27. Eliminate quotations. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "I hate quotations. Tell me what you know."
28. If you've heard it once, you've heard it a thousand times: Resist hyperbole; not one writer in a million can use it correctly.
29. Puns are for children, not groan readers.
30. Go around the barn at high noon to avoid colloquialisms.
31. Even IF a mixed metaphor sings, it should be derailed.
32. Who needs rhetorical questions?
33. Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.
34. The passive voice should never be used.
35. Do not put statements in the negative form.
36. Verbs have to agree with their subjects.
37. A writer must not shift your point of view.
38. Place pronouns as close as possible, especially in long sentences of 10 or more words, to their antecedents.
39. Writing carefully, dangling participles must be avoided.
40. If any word is improper at the end of a sentence, a linking verb is.
41. Take the bull by the hand and avoid mixing metaphors.
42. Avoid trendy locutions that sound flaky.
43. Everyone should be careful to use a singular pronoun with singular nouns in their writing.
44. Always pick on the correct idiom.
45. The adverb always follows the verb.
46. Be careful to use the rite homonym.
47. Proofread carefully to see if you any words out.

earlymorninblogging

it's 7:14am and i'm in explo already. jeb will leave for cebu at around 9am and the only way we'd see each other inbetweenourbusyschedules is for him to bring me to work early, God bless his sweet sweet soul. o di ba. may mas lala-laida at miggy pa ba sa 'min? hahaha.

but unlike laida's sophomoric reaction to the challenge (matet's character: mag-reresign ka? anong gagawin mo dun?! laida: kahit ano! mamahalin ko siya! aalagaan ko siya! weh.), jeb and i are coping well with change. there was a time that we were both GIGO bums: we just ate and watched TV series and pretended to keep ourselves busy with mini-projects such as t-shirt printing, bootleg music recording, and blowing up C2 bottles with muriatic acid and foil. now, a half-day together is as rare and precious as ruffa gutierrez's designer shoes. (oo na oo na ruffa, ang ganda na ng shoes mo!!!) but we're doing ok, and the craaaaziness of our whirlwind days actually give us a lot to bond about when we're together and stuffing food in our faces. haha. (white hat yogurt is a recent favorite!)

pero OA, para akong highschool, when i see him after long gaps, kinikilig ako. with background music in my head, jeb in slow mo, ganyang level. kulang na lang magtakbuhan kami towards each other at buhatin ko siya sa bewang at magpaikot-ikot kami. (uh, di niya yata ako kaya. diego and trix, you can do it the trad way. haha.) alavhimsomuch.

Lord, i'm thankful for jeb, thankful that seeing him after being so tired from everything else is like an intravenous extra joss quick-upper. please keep him safe always, and please make him remember that rico blanco can never love him as much as i do. haha.

today looks like it'd be fun. :) i'd have my last two PTCs for my toddler class with fin and karen and then after lunch, off to museo pambata the explo family will go! :D our grade school, Keys, has a part in the exhibit there. after viewing the exhibit, siguro pasyal ng konti and then it's our year-end dinner. i bet i'd be all emo because hello, jojie curse, iiwan na naman ako ng mga head ko this year: fin for toddlers and marla for MM. (let's count ok? wena, may, chiara, tin... KO wag ka na. hahaha.) gee you guys. i know you've taught me a lot but why leave me huh? why teacher why? haha.

i'm really blessed with this work family, and i always pray that God makes this school flourish immensely. (marami na kaming kids Lord, soccer field naman dyan o.) of course now that i'm older i'm starting to plot my life plans and i'm happy to say that explo is still a big big part of it. of course there are other dreams to fulfill but as of now, explo is a big dream come true already. to work with our "alamat" admins, my crazy talented co-teachers (check out this mix, to name a few: supermoms, music major, gymnast, ballerina, speech therapist, voice talent, tita maggi/ rockband bassist, swimming master, thespian... and Mark. hahaha. joooowk.) our nurturing yayas, and adorable, fantastic children is an extra-ordinary gift not every teacher gets to experience. pati when you find a school with a working, brilliant philosophy that *swaks* with your personal beliefs as a teacher, everyday is a learning experience.

eventually, when it's time to move on, i will look back and say "daym. i was part of the best school ever ever ever!"

1. plurk- aaaah, finally. i can plurk in peace again. haha. go karma, up up!

2. facebook- first there were the meme notes, now there are the quizzes. for a 5-year blogger like me, these really aren't new, but just the fact that they're all jampacked in one site and you don't have to source them from different places makes it all very convenient, and dangerously addicting. ooohnoes. haha. plus it's really been fun touching base with long-lost friends.

3. pet society- haha oo, bukod ito, kahit ba application lang din siya ng facebook. haha. i love lalalalaida. i love her house. my favorite house stuff are my hot pink jukebox, my princess swing, my jacuzzi, and my pink bathroom set (sink, toilet bowl, bath tub). if only earning coins and building a house and interior designing were that easy and fun and affordable in real life, haha. i also love lalalalaida's ninangs: ayeth, chamy, icy, ressy... her house won't be as cute as it is now if it weren't for you guys. (p.s. i need garden stuff. anything you can spare? :D hahaha.)

this weekend was a pleasant surprise by the way. :) nasimulan ng maliit na birthday meryenda ni rhea nung friday, just in mozu's near school with my MA classmates. and then date with jeboy that night also... sobrang namiss ko na si bebe. wala para lang kaming bagong magboypren, dinner at kiligan ganyan. haha. yesterday, saturday, i had french class in the afternoon and then atih confirmed that we could watch the e-heads concert. VIP-ers pa. yooown. kanina, church siyempre.

life is still good. :D busy, but good.

1. As soon as you open your eyes, look around and take everything in with awe... it's a brand new world! As soon as you can talk, ask questions. The adults around you are mandated by vygotsky (social-constructivist theorist) to answer them. Harhar!

2. I know you can't help it, but you can't eat everything. Eating sand, baby powder, weird looking fruit, or your brother's robot may be good "I was so stupid when i was a kid that i ate [___]" conversational pieces... but it's only because you can't remember how much your tummy ached.

3. Go crazy when characterizing your imaginary friend. :D I changed mine every week. (Although, that may have been a side effect of my asthma meds...)

4. Eat your veggies. They're yummy. Broccoli is the yummiest--- tell your parents to bring you to Hap Chang.

5. You will never forget the first time you tie your own shoelaces. Need help remembering? Tell yourself this story every time.

Once there was a rabbit that was very sad because his ears were so long and narrow that he stepped on them all the time.

One day a fairy landed on the bunny's head. She lifted up the bunny's ears and crossed them over like an x. Then she put one ear through the bottom of the x and pulled. Next, she made each long ear into a loop and made another x like before. She put an ear under that x and pulled again.

From then on the bunny wore his ears in a bow, and he lived happily every after. (tarush di ba?)

6. Use aaaaall the crayons in your crayon box. You don't always have to use your favorite color, and the sky doesn't always need to be blue. Besides, the earlier your crayons are stub-tipped, the earlier you can lambing your parents to buy new ones!

7. Crying while seizing on mall floors when your parents don't/ can't buy your flavor-of-the-month purchase does not make you look good. Use your words, and learn early that you can't have everything.

8. Nothing beats street games. Piko, patintero, tumbang preso, 10/20, touch ball... aaaah. Round up your neighborhood friends and get all sweaty and stinky! "I had blood gushing from my broken leg when I tripped playing [_____]" stories are much, much, much interesting than the "I was so stupid when i was a kid that i ate [___]" stories.

9. Disney's, Pixar's, and Dreamworks' animation skills may be ever-improving, but real animals are still a wonder to see. Go to the zoo.

10. Since you've been reading "JOLLIBEE" even before you learned the alphabet, try eating chickenjoy. You'll love it.

11. Use gentle hands at all times.

12. Read books and be able to explore worlds from just one spot! :)

13. Kiss and hug your mom and dad everyday. They love you the most. (Yes, more than your invisible friend does.)

25 RANDOM THINGS

*BOING*

(that was me jumping on the bandwagon.) i've lost count (and recognition) of who've tagged me already. eto na, eto na, wag na kayong mangulit.

1. let's start with the name. JOCHEBED is the name of moses's mom. you can look it up in the Bible, exodus 6:20. incidentally, the name of my mother who chose it for me is MIRIAM, jochebed's daughter/moses's sister. ask me now why everything in my life is mixed up, and i'd go all freudian on you.

2. i've had asthma since i was 8 months old. up 'til i was 12, i was hospitalized for at least 4 times a year. it explains why i love the smell of hospitals and i lovelovelove hospital food. my hospital of choice then was the old medical city; and i was literally heartbroken when they had to tear that building down--- it was my disneyland somehow. lots of memories. they're building a condo on the lot and if i had the money i'd get a unit, just for old times' sake.

3. my security blanket is not a blanket, it's a mosquito net! mahal ko ang kulambo-sako ko sa paa. (sabi ko dati, ang tunay na lalaking magmamahal sa 'kin e mamahalin rin ang kulambo ko. char.) i drag it around the house, i can't sleep without it, i can never survive an out-of-town trip if i left it. kapag nalimutan, susuysuyin ko ang lugar na 'yun para bumili ng kulambo.

4. i have a tape recording of 2-year-old jojie singing "BAYAN KO". oo, as in yung ibon-mang-may-layang-lumip

ad-kulungin-mo-at-umiiyak BAYAN KO. why? that was 1986. go figure. that recording validates that...

5. ... i have been singing for as long as i can remember (and
apparently, even beyond, because i don't have a recollection of that
recording session with mama and papa). i sing ALL-THE-FREAKIN-TIME.
school exams, MRT rides, medical check-ups, etc. when i was 7 years
old, our next door neighbor complained to mama about my 4am singing . i
set a 6am singing mark for myself since then--- ayokong ma-barangay.

6. i graduated valedictorian of my elementary class. when i got to
manila science, our class of 30 was made up of 27 valedictorians, 2
salutatorians, and 1 1st honorable mention awardee. i figured, better
leave the mental wrestling to those who were waaaay smarter.
extra-curriculars, come to momma! 

7. i loved highschool. i'd go back to highschool in a heartbeat. masci
was weird in normal high school standards (did you have your prom from
3PM to 7PM in an airconless sauna-like school auditorium? didn't think
so.) but maaaan, i loved that school. i'm thankful for the highschool
friends i've made and i've kept--- i think they're phenomenal.

8. when i was in 2nd year, i drew a caricature of my biology teacher.
in class, during her lecture. and as horrific highschool stories go, of
course i got caught. given my lack of artistic skills, it was no
surprise that she hated it. "SINO 'TO?! AKO BA 'TO?!" 'til now, i
always remember that teacher with a smile.

9.( i am running out of things to write in this list. tsk. hm.) i miss
acting onstage. had a short theater stint and would go through the
puyatan rehearsals again anytime.

10. i have a big orocan box filled with letters, greeting cards, old
pictures, old diaries... old old old and all kinds of mushiness on
paper. kapag nagkasunog sa 'min, yun ang una kong sasagipin. ay WAIT! pangalawa pala. kulambo yung una! 

11. i put gravy on my spaghetti. yum yum yum.

12. i believe that FRIENDS is the best tv show ever made. bow.

13. i am very very very cranky when i have PMS. 

14. i like pink and purple but i don't think they are good colors for me to wear. tsk.

15. i dream of going to bankstreet. but i don't know where to get the
funds for it. kung sasali ako sa pinoy dream academy, keri ba?

16. aha! speaking of singing contests. i've never dared to join
televised singing contests because i am insecure of my armpits and
contestants have to wear armpit-baring gowns for performances. tsk.

17. i am really running out of things to write here. *counts...  walo pa?! 

18. ... and i think my 5 years of blogging are to blame... i've exposed
a lot of my jojieness already that the "ay, talagaaa?" factor just
isn't there anymore. i will now take this chance to plug  my blog, hahaha. for those days when you don't have anything to do, or anyone to stalk. hahaha. 

19. i lovelovelooooove john lloyd cruz...

20. but not as much as i lovelovelovelovelovelooooooove jeb. char! hahaha.

21. i am fascinated with airplanes and the whole airport experience. i
love taking trips. the most beautiful place i've been is paris, and i
hope to go back there someday.

22. je parle un peu francais. (i don't even know if i did that right.)

23. i think i'd be a preschool teacher for a long time. :)

24. i plan to learn how to drive this year, so i can sing while driving too.

25. i now have a lot of other ideas for this list, kung kelan tapos na.
but because i am supposed to be working on my thesis and i have no time
and the required EQ to edit, i'd just have to wait for the next tagging
thingamajig.
